The AP offers a list from a Canadian undercover cop of teen web lingo for parents to monitor. Some examples:
— A3 is ”anytime, anywhere, anyplace.”
— ASLP is ”age, sex, location, picture.”
— BD is ”big deal.”
— CMI is ”call me.”
See the full list of acronyms. It’s a little disturbing to think of how some of these are used in practice. A friend and I were discussing MySpace and she said the surest way to kill the site is for parents to join. Just imagine a 15-year-old getting a friend request from her mom. The kid would take down their profile instantly. While parents may want to give their kids a bit of their own space, they’d do well to scan the site here and there just to see what’s being said.
