Apparently there’s a pungent gas odor pervading Manhattan right now.
We New Yorkers have had better days for strange odors. In October 2005, there was a strange maple sugar smell that blanketed the city. I don’t think it was ever properly explained, but I miss it.
Follow-up: I just saw a header on CNN: “In Jersey City the smell described as 1,000 times stronger than at a gas station”. That beats the usual 10,000x-gas station-strength smell you usually find in Jersey City on a normal day.
