Tragedy Strikes, Searches Spike

It wasn’t fun writing about the Cory Lidle plane crash. Here’s a tragedy where two guys are dead, and I’m writing about marketing?

The column must go on though. The theme in general is one I love writing about — checking how marketers and search engines respond to breaking news. Cory Lidle didn’t even rank in the Yahoo! Buzz Index the day before the tragedy, and then he shot up to . His previous high? Around 12,000, and only for a day. His other high this year was around 30,000. Then again, if you’re playing for the Yankees, it’s sometimes good to escape the buzz radar.

You can find the column here.
