Yes, I know, correlation does not imply causation. One of my college psychology professors, Dr. DuFour, would tell his classes that ice cream consumption and rape both go up in the summer, but it’s hard to say one causes the other. (If there was a connection, that trans fat ban in New York would seem like nothing).
The chart at right, better shown here on Swivel, shows how wine consumption and homicide are moving in opposite directions. Swivel’s a new research site being touted by Technorati, but so far it’s great for browsing, not as great for searching and comparing data you’re looking for. That should change.
