I’m writing this from Austin, where I was been speaking at the HGS Build for the Future Summit. It’s both fun and humbling to feel like such a novice in a room full of brilliant folks tackling customer experience (CX) challenges or applying their other areas of expertise.

I made up for my relative lack of knowledge with the sheer volume of content I was trying to cram into a 20-minute talk (well, it should have been 15 — sorry, Eric Schwamberger, a long-time kindred spirit from the agency side who’s at HGS and invited me).

I’ll keep today’s missive lighter on original content but richer in the aggregated variety, as it’s been quite a stretch getting to this point. While the slides lack voiceover, there’s a lot of material that may be good for your bookmark stash. These links cover most of it:

A big theme of my talk, largely about AI’s role in supporting the marketing funnel, was captured in the adorably illustrated slides (thanks DALL-E 3 in ChatGPT) that said, “Ask not what job you can do with AI tech; ask what job you want AI technologies to do.”

Okay, Kennedy said it better, and more handsomely, but the idea is right now you can probably find AI-centric or AI-supported tech to do some or all of literally any marketing job. And when you hear about some weird things I share, or that come up in AI Marketers Guild (AIMG), you should try whatever moves you. But when it comes to your day job, first figure out the job you need to be done, and only then see how AI can help — or IF it can help. As Judy Shapiro noted on a recent AI Insiders call, AI needs to earn your trust.

Speaking of which, AIMG continues to shape up to be THE community-led organization for marketers trying to make sense of AI, and the weekly calls, now regularly with subject matter experts and demos, is fantastic. We have a mix of brand, agency, tech, association, and academia folks learning tons from each other, and you should make one of our upcoming editions, always Wednesdays at 12pm EST.

Our upcoming lineup includes:

Really, they’re amazing, and if you need a speaker for any AI topic, I’m keeping a running list. I’d love to join you myself if appropriate, but I can also recommend others.

Hope to see you at one of those. Let me know what you think of the resources shared, and send any tips for resources you recommend.

If you’re not in the community yet, I’d love to have you there too. Just reply and I’ll get you right in — until I figure out how AI can automate all that.

David
